SAVE MONEY ON YOUR CHRISTMAS CARDS

COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS 1 - 91 DAYS TO GO!
Look through your address book and count up how many Christmas cards you will need. Then count up all your friends and relatives that have email addresses and deduct that number from your original count. You can send those people free e-cards – saves money and the planet at the same time! Have a look at ecards.co.uk, they are free and make their money by showing you adverts – a small price to pay for the money you’ll save!

Now look through your stocks of cards left over from last Christmas (if you have any) and count how many you need to go and buy – and buy only those. If you are worried about getting caught out by receiving an unexpected card, don’t be - most of the best buys are in packs of 10 or 20, so if you need 36, for example, then you’ll have a few left over for emergencies – or for next year – get it?

Alternatively you can cut your Christmas card expenditure in half and do some good at the same time – here’s how:

  • Decide how many cards you would normally send and roughly much you would normally pay for these cards and the stamps to post them. Say this comes to £30; divide this figure by 2, which is £15.
  • Tell all your friends and relatives that you are not sending cards this year but instead are donating the money to charity – then donate £15 (or whatever your figure is) to your favourite charity.

Of course if you post cards to family and friends in distant places, I appreciate it will be hard to let them know you’re not sending cards – you don’t want to blow the potential savings by making ’phone calls just to tell them! So, use the same system, but instead, just don’t send cards to those people who you see regularly, like work colleagues, local members of your family and neighbours and tell them what you are going to do.
