IF YOU KNIT - GET READY FOR CHRISTMAS!

I know it's not possible to give everyone a knitted Christmas present (not everyone would want one!), but if you knit, you should take a look at Free Christmas Knitting Patterns!
This is a growing collection of Christmas knitting from around the web and has a huge range of ideas for decorations, Children's patterns and gifts!
Even the Christmas sweater has passed into the realms of irony and party - going! So you may well decide to make someone a gift of a lovingly hand-knitted Christmas sweater after all!

NOW IT'S TIME TO START PLANNING FOR CHRISTMAS 2013...

My personal Christmas countdown reminder says it's only 93 days, 6 hours, 40 minutes and 28 seconds to Christmas 2013!
Good grief! I haven't done a single thing towards my Christmas planning yet and it's only, wait a minute- it's only September 22nd!
But that's the trouble isn't it? We all drift along in the wake of a lovely summer, still wearing our flip-flops (actually it's just turned a bit cold here and I've pretty much laid mine up for the time being) and we're not thinking straight. Christmas will come all too soon and it will cost us more if we leave everything to the last minute.
Frugality is all in the planning and I've started- even if it's only in my head!
So here's my thoughts so far:
Presents
For more distant relatives' family gifts I'm thinking of small hampers and am just going to start experimenting with a shortbread recipe I've found (I'll let you know how that goes), making pretty little jars of home-made raspberry jam and marmalade, Christmas Chutney, little bags of  home-made fudge and, possibly, some truffles - but I may cheat and buy those!
Christmas food
I'm going to make a list (never fails for frugality) of food we eat at Christmas, then keep a lookout each week when I go food shopping to see what bargains I can pick up - I've already got a shelf cleared for my frugal Christmas finds!
I'm also going to find my favourite Christmas pudding recipe, then go through my kitchen cupboards to see what I've got that may contribute to the recipe - I know I've got black treacle, some various dried fruits and a bag of dark brown sugar so I'm fairly sure I can make a pudding cheaper and better than buying one - watch this space!
Happy frugal Christmas planning!
